I love being a Health Coach! But maybe you are wondering, “What exactly is a Health Coach? Here is a good description that sums it up nicely from the November 2010 issue of Medical Economics:
“The primary objectives of health coaching are to educate the patient regarding self health management and to encourage patients in taking a more proactive role in staying healthy.”
As a Health Coach, I do this through educating and supporting you to achieve your goals through lifestyle and behavior adjustments and I help you find the tools that best fit your needs. I believe that not only does your relationship with food matter, but bringing health to all aspects of your life—your relationships, exercise, career, and spirituality—makes a big difference in finding the optimal health you are looking for.
Proper health coach training programs and health coach certification are key to ensure that Health Coaches know how to work with diverse groups of people and equips them with the tools necessary to best fit the needs of their clients. At my school, Institute of Integrative Nutrition, over 100 different dietary theories are studied and the courses are taught by the world’s top nutrition experts.
More awareness is being given to preventative care and health coaching is now seen as a vital aspect of creating healthy lifestyle changes and recognized as essential and integral parts of people’s health and wellbeing.
Doctors hiring more Health Coaches than ever before and patients are learning that working with a Health Coach is one of the most effective ways to improve their health. Check out this article that Dr. Michael Roizen wrote in the Huffington Post that echoes this notion.
